Music Pastor

Lavon Drive Baptist Church is a growing multi-generational and multi-cultural church of over 1000 weekly worshipers serving the Lord in Garland, TX, a suburb of North Dallas. We are a ministry focused on making disciples who make disciples.  The Music Ministry has for decades been a cornerstone of the church’s vibrant worship experience, with Sunday services featuring a modern, high-energy style that utilizes a full choir, multi-generational praise team, and orchestra.

The Music Pastor’s role involves collaborating closely with leadership to foster and sustain a dynamic and flourishing worship experience that brings individuals into deeper communion with the Lord Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. This individual will assess, propose, and implement plans and objectives for worship that are in harmony with the church's mission, vision, values, and principles. Key responsibilities include:

1. Overseeing the planning of worship experiences in all English-speaking services and providing support to Spanish service music teams (and other languages as the ministry expands).
2. Leading the musical aspects of worship services.
3. Developing leaders to help carry the vision of the ministry, including both paid staff and volunteers.
4. Exhibiting a strong, self-motivated work ethic that is visionary, collaborative, hard-working, and passionate about Kingdom service.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to advance the church’s various objectives, engaging wholeheartedly in non-musical activities related to evangelism, discipleship, fellowship, etc.

Additional Responsibilities

• Engage in ongoing, strategic volunteer development. Develop, nurture, and inspire leaders.
• Work closely with the Technical Director to maintain and manage the procurement of resources for sound, video, lighting, staging, etc. to ensure the best possible experience for both in-person and online attendees.
• Oversee the maintenance of all church-owned instruments.
• Collaborate with Children’s Worship, Children’s Ministry and Student Ministry leaders to develop a pipeline for equipping multi-generational worship leaders.
• Provide leadership and direction for the Middle School/High School Chapel Worship Team at the church’s Christian School, Garland Christian Academy.
• Provide godly and visionary leadership to the other music staff and volunteers operating under the oversight of the Music Ministry. Part-time Support Staff currently consist of an Instrumental Director/Worship Associate, Technical Director, and Children’s Worship Director.

Skills/Qualification:

• Vibrant and Spirit-led relationship with Jesus Christ
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience leading worship as part of a church staff team
• Strong skills as a vocalist, with at least some instrumental skill preferred
• Excel across a wide variety of styles and generational tastes, with particular proficiency in modern, contemporary worship styles
• Proficiency at reading written music as well as chord charts
• Experience leading and conducting a choir
• Experience recruiting volunteers and leading and managing teams
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience
• Prior experience leveraging technologies including: Planning Center Online, ProPresenter, MultiTracks.com / Ableton
