Director of Children's Ministries

Supervised by                        Head of Staff Pastor

Primary Function

  • Responsible for facilitating the coordination, development, and administration of the ministry of Christian education for WPC's children (infant through fifth grade) and their parents.
  • Identify, train, and support volunteers and department interns.
  • Resource and collaborate with Connecting Point Pastoral Intern with Christian Education support for ages Birth-5 grade.
  • Resource and collaborate with Directors of the CDC and KKA, to develop relationships and implement programs benefit children & families of these programs; including outreach, parenting classes, fundraising, special events, leading Chapel, and other needs as they arise.

Secondary Functions

  • To develop and oversee all aspects of the Children's Ministry.
  • Select, retain, evaluate and develop volunteer base and/or staff to support Children's Ministry through effective leadership.
  • To serve as staff liaison to children's ministry team, parents and volunteers as they build and execute ministry objectives.
  • To have oversight and approve Children's Ministry programs, curricula, activities, disbursement of funds for ministry, and working within the department operating budget.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement lessons and activities for WPC Children's programs and offer resourcing to Connecting Point or other identified areas of need within Children's department.
  • Create and collaborate new opportunities beyond Sunday Morning for WPC, CDC, KKA, and Connecting Point families; not limited to things such as small groups, special seasonal events, summer activities, and Vacation Bible School.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and schedule volunteers.
  • Assure that curriculum materials, equipment, and other supplies are available; assure that equipment, classrooms, and supply room are inventoried and maintained.
  • To reach out to, welcome and embrace all children into a safe and engaging environment.
  • Be available to teachers and leaders on Sunday mornings and at other times for counseling, guidance and support.
  • Support families and parents; refer pastoral care needs to pastoral staff.
  • Coordinate and oversee the scheduling of Children's Time and Full Circle Fellowship on Sundays; leading as needed.
  • Oversight of the communication for the Children's Ministry to the parents, congregations (WPC & CP) and families of the KKA & CDC programs.
  • Create and maintain a fun and positive Christian environment.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by Head of Staff Pastor.

  • Guided by Biblical and theological knowledge
  • Able to work creatively and cooperatively with others; especially CDC & KKA directors.
  • Excellent administrator and team builder
  • A passion for children and extensive experience in children's ministry
  • Able to motivate and train volunteers
  • Excellent communicator

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education and/or Ministry preferred
  • Three years related experience
  • Teaching and leadership experience preferred
